The History of the Batch House:

The Old Fire station, photographed in 2009, where the Glass Yard now stands.

Land acquired in 2019/2020 for development.

Development of the site commences 2020. Completed post-covid pandemic.

The Batch House as it now stands today.
Chesterfield's glass-making history spans centuries, from Dixon's glass house near Whittington (Glasshouse farm) in the 1800's, producing coal fired glass to the 20th century era of Dema Glass (formally British Thompson Huston, then Glass Tubes and Components), which made everything from TV tubes to table-wear at its Sheffield Road factory, eventually closing in 2001 for redevelopment into Chesterfield Football Club's new stadium. The developers of The Glass Yard and Batch House created their design as a tribute to Chesterfield's glass history and sits on the site of the old fire station opposite the old glass factory, now the Chesterfield FC football stadium.
